"I got rid of them, yes," Marcus agrees. Eponine seems to believe him without much of a fight and he doesn't know if that's a product of the world she's from or the time or something else entirely, but whatever the case, he's grateful for it. There's usually someone who doesn't believe in what he's doing, someone who stands in his way, but Marcus has always found them relatively easy to ignore, especially when the rest of a family tends to be in support of what he's doing.
This is a much different situation. No one has called him here, no one has asked for him to come and he intends to help, but he knows it might be more difficult dealing with the staff. They're not likely to believe him, none of them seem to be particularly religious or even particularly inclined to pay attention to what's going on in the Home. It's going to be necessary to have the children on his side in every possible way.
