At Dan's explanation, he almost wants to laugh and he finds he can't. The idea of it would be funny, if not for the situation, and Marcus doesn't even want to begin to think about what the demon might do if it finds Dan is here instead of Marcus. There are so many things that might go wrong with this, so many possible moments for Dan to be hurt, but Marcus doesn't know if there's any other way to get this information across. Even now, when he tries to speak the demon's name, it doesn't work.
Something is keeping him from saying it. The only way will be for him to get out.
"I'm afraid," he admits. All his life he's been arrogant and sure of himself, but he's never denied his fear. Every time Tomas had claimed not to be afraid, Marcus had told him what a fool he would be if that were true. He's afraid now. Afraid for himself, for Dan, afraid for Sam and Neil and Kat. Afraid for Sabrina. They're all in danger and he doesn't like this plan. He can also see there really aren't any other options.
