"It's me," he says, knowing that doesn't make any sense. "It's Marcus. Dan's back there, still in there with the demon and I don't think I have a lot of time. I can't just... just leave him in there."

Marcus hasn't allowed himself to consider what it might do to Dan, even if he heads back as quick as he possibly can. If he thinks about it, he knows he won't get any of this done and it will all have been for nothing.
"He can... switch," Marcus says, the words still sounding odd to his ears as they tumble out in Dan's voice. "Turn. Somehow. I don't understand it, but he needed to get me out."
