[early June]
Jun. 11th, 2018 04:36 pmIt's a rare night alone and Marcus isn't exactly making the most of it. Instead of attempting to relax -- not something he's ever been very good at when there's something to be worked on -- he has a few books spread out on his coffee table, as well as his Bible, his notebook, and several newspaper clippings of weird occurrences in Darrow over the past several months. Not all of them can be blamed on whatever is happening with Betty, he's sure of that, but he's trying to work out what might be something he ought to be looking further into.
Verity is off with Elio, he thinks, and he's not sure where Matthias and Dutch might be, but part of what works for them is that it isn't necessary for him to always know what they're doing or where they are. If they're spending the evening together, he's glad for them, and if they were interested in inviting him along, they'd have called. He's not exactly the jealous sort and they were together long before he showed up in Darrow, so he'll never fault them for being alone together.
Needless to say, he's not expecting anyone, and when the buzzer for his flat sounds, he doesn't immediately hear it. It takes a second buzz to get him moving, realizing the sound is alerting him to someone at the front door trying to be let in.
He's a terrible neighbour, he knows that. He buzzes whoever it is in without even checking. For all he knows it's someone coming to rob the place, but he doubts it very much. If they're here for him, it won't take them long to get down the hall, so he unlocks his door, then heads back to the living room to attempt to put things back in order. The books he has out aren't for everyone to see, after all.
