Most days, Marcus still doesn't know what the hell he's doing in Darrow.

God hasn't said a word, he hasn't found a hint of even a single demon, and he spends most of his days sketching or wandering the city, looking for something more than what he already has. He'll drop by to see Angela, to make sure she's not going stir crazy without her family -- he's not sure she isn't, but he can't fix that for her, no matter how badly he might want to -- and he'll see some of the people he's made friends with, but it's still a mostly directionless existence. It's been years since he's been without purpose, longer than he can really remember, and he's beginning to understand he doesn't like it very much at all.

One bright spot, however, is having found someone who understands what he does. Most people know what an exorcist is, they have a general idea what he does based on history and stories, but that isn't the same as really understanding.

But Ed gets it.

That's part of why Marcus finds himself wanting to spend more time with the man. He has an understanding of the world from which Marcus has came that few other people do. He knows more than Tomas did when they first began to work together, he knows more than anyone else Marcus has met in Darrow, and it gives him a sense of peace when they talk, because for all he's been something of a loner all his life, in this instance, it's good not to be alone.

He's even begun to use his phone a little more often, calling Ed to ask if he'll come out for a drink. They arrange to meet at a nearby bar and he's wondering if, after a beer or two, they might go back to Bramford and Ed can show him a little bit of what he's discovered at the apartment there. Maybe they'll even see a ghost.
