Sep. 11th, 2017 12:27 pmSomehow he can't quite believe he's agreed to do this.
Not that he's agreed to anything in particular just yet. This is only meeting for a cup of coffee and lunch with a man named Joseph who had literally ripped a hole in space or time or something in order to show Marcus a room filled with books. A man who had oddly expressed interest in learning how to fight demons, though what that really means to him still isn't quite understood by Marcus. It's likely not the same as what he's done, what he's been doing for years, but it's the first offer for help he's had besides Ed -- who already knows what he's doing -- and Marcus finds, for all he's reluctant to train anyone, he can't quite turn the man away.
He's made no promises and he doubts he will any time soon, because training to be an exorcist is something beyond what most people are willing to do. They have to give up so much, all their connections, all their outside distractions, and at this point even Marcus isn't entirely willing to do that. He knows it's a weakness, something he's going to pay for down the line, but for the moment he's content to have the little things he wants.
And for someone who's lived in Darrow longer, someone like Joseph, who has to have made connections, he knows giving it all up is next to impossible. But then, things have changed. Marcus just doesn't know how he's meant to change with them.
He's here, though. He's at the diner where they agreed to meet. He's carrying the same notebook he'd been holding the day they met. At this point he doesn't know if he'll share it with Joseph, but he wanted to have it handy just in case he decides it's for the best. Anyone who wants to do what he does needs to know what they're up against.
